This river will show you how fun the sport can get. The Upper Yough in Western Maryland is a step up in difficulty above the others, because once it starts you are faced with 6 miles of non-stop class IV rapids. With fewer hazards than other rivers of the same difficulty, the Upper demands constant maneuvering and control. You really feel like you are a whitewater paddler, when on your way down you reflect that you really can handle this steep little river. But you won’t have much time before you must find the next line down a rapid. We call this your graduation trip, because all the skills work that you have been doing in classes at Dickerson and Mather Gorge come together to give you access to this beautiful little river. The entire run is about 11 miles. AW information
